Opening of “Plastic Problems” with Carolyn Cardinet and Bayley Artists at G3 Kingston Gallery, Parkdale

Around Bayley Bayley Arts

The opening of Plastic Problems at G3 in Parkdale was a resounding success, drawing a large crowd from the local community as well as those who travelled from afar to witness this thought-provoking exhibition. The event highlighted the creative works of Carolyn Cardinet and the talented Bayley Artists, addressing one of the most pressing issues of our time – the environmental impact of plastic waste.

The evening was officially opened by Susanne Ciavatta, Bayley Arts Community Arts Engagement Manager, whose warm welcome set the tone for an inspiring night. We were also joined by Susannah Kenny, Climate Emergency Lead from Kingston City Council, who took the opportunity to share some quirky and practical tips about recycling. One of the standout facts she shared was that keeping bottle tops on bottles, rather than removing them, actually helps with the recycling process. In addition, Susannah highlighted how Kingston is ahead of many other councils by recycling soft plastics, offering residents a more sustainable way to manage their waste.

The exhibition itself was displayed in a new space, and it was amazing to see how the artwork transformed the gallery environment. Many attendees, especially those who had been part of the project, were excited to see their work in such a different context. The diverse perspectives on display resonated deeply with the audience, sparking conversations about the role of art in addressing environmental issues.

For those who missed the opening, Plastic Problems remains a powerful testament to the creativity and dedication of the artists involved. The exhibition is a must-see for anyone interested in sustainability, art, and the local community’s efforts to tackle plastic pollution.Listen to Kingston Arts Gallery Curator Jessica Rowe talk about this exhibition on Southern FM
