Walking to the Bayley Beat - Update
23rd of June 2008
Well, we've done it. We completed the 5km walk in Run Melbourne on sunday June 22!!
Not only did we finish the walk in fantastic style (even if a bit damp....) but we reached and exceedd our fundraising target of $8000 ($1000 for every team member). In fact, we raised OVER - $8500 in total. WOW! What a great result!
The Bayley Beat Team consisted of Georgina Broadway, Jessica O'Donovan, John Davis, Tony Devine, Peter Ginn, Angus MacMillan, Bri Peatling and Sam Weir. All attend Bayley House and took part in Run Melbourne as part of the Recreation Program.
We had a great day getting up early to be at the start on time. The boss (CEO - Peter Lee) slept in but that didn't stop us. We had others to walk with and hit the start line just after 9.25am. We headed towards the Shrine and around the Gardens and past all the sporting stadiums in Melbourne Park. Everyone was chatting and laughing all the way and the distance went quickly. We stopped several times to wait for everyone to make sure we kept together and to have a quick rest, but it was all part of the fun.
We crossed the finish line in just 1hour and nine minutes and had people cheering for us when we arrived. A little while later we saw ourselves arrive on the big screen in Federation Square then headed back to Bayley House for a BBQ lunch.
Overall, our team raised just $3500 from online donations and just on $5100 more in cash/ cheque donations. FANTASTIC!
The money we raised will pay for some of the activities we do in the Recreation Program on the weekends and over the holidays.....ten pin bowling, movies, visits to the zoo, discos and lots more.
We couldn't have done it without your support. Thanks also to Troy from Tee Shirt Promotions who provided our T-shirts, Gill, Julian, Kerryn, Julian and Margot who walked with us.
