Volunteers give our workshop benches a new look
14th of November 2007
With the assistance and hard work of some very dedicated volunteers, the benches in the Bayley Industries workshop area have received a much needed fresh coat of paint and now have new lease of life.
Volunteer teams from ExxonMobil and Diners Club International spent time at Bayley House towards the end of October working with our people to sand down the tops and legs of the workbenches and give them several coats of paint. It had been over 15 years since any of the workbenches had received a sand and coat of paint. The bench tops were scratched and the paint on the legs was old and chipped. Both groups certainly had their work cut out, but they were both up to the challenge.
Nine team members from Diners Club International spent Friday 19 October at Bayley House as part of their Corporate Volunteering Program and spend the day sanding down and varnishing the bench tops. No easy task! The hardwood surface lived up to its name and took quite an effort to sand out the marks and get into shape; the volunteers certainly earned their BBQ lunch and coffee breaks!
The following Tuesday, 23 October, ten employees from ExxonMobil swapped their normal work for a day volunteering at Bayley House as part of their annual Day of Caring Program. This is the second year that volunteers from ExxonMobil have visited Bayley House and they spent their day giving the bench tops another coat of varnish and then sanding and painting the legs and frames of the benches.
Now, thanks to their combined efforts the workbenches are on their well on the way to looking brand new and have already transformed the look and feel of the workshop area.
Bayley House is very appreciative of the assistance of corporate volunteers. Many large companies now provide one or two days a year in which their employees can engage in much-needed community work to participate in activities such as gardening, painting, cleaning, packaging and other tasks.
