Roxburgh House Opened
17th of October 2007
The Hon Rob Hudson MP, Member for Bentleigh officially opened Roxburgh House on Wednesday 17 October.
Roxburgh House is the seventh residential property operated by Bayley House and was named in acknowledgement of the generosity of Mrs Joan Roxburgh who was very supportive of Bayley House.
Providing a home for up to seven adults with an intellectual disability, Roxburgh House will in effect be three residences on one site: a shared supported accommodation house and two transition units. Each will provide differing degrees of support, allowing clients to learn new skills and offer the opportunity to live more independently as they move from one residence to then next.
The shared supported house at the front of the property will provide 24 hour supervised accommodation for three people, the majority of whom have moved directly out of the family home. Whilst living in this house, they will learn the necessary skills required for independent living such as cooking, cleaning, shopping and personal hygiene. As their skills develop they will be given the opportunity to move into one of the units at the rear of the property that provide less support and greater independence.
This transition style of accommodation is unique and aims to develop the skills our people need to live to independently within the community.
