Living in the Roxburgh Transition Units
1st of December 2008
Roxburgh House was opened just under a year ago and already we have had fantastic success with the ‘first’ graduates of the program moving into the new transition units at the rear of the property.
New residents,Tamara, Georgina, Luke and Peter moved in during August and are experiencing the lifestyle that independent living brings. Friends and family are invited over for dinner and BBQs on a regular basis and they have each decorated their own rooms to their taste.
The Community Living program at Roxburgh House is unique and aims to provide residents with the skills they need to live as independently as possible. The main house, which is fully supported, provides a home for three people as they learn to perform basic household tasks such as cooking, cleaning and shopping. Those living in each of the two 2 Bedroom transition units can still receive support from staff but only when it is required. An intercom connects each unit to the main house so that Tamara, Georgina, Luke and Peter can ask questions, seek help or simply say goodnight to staff.
