Basketball Challenge Cup
3rd of December 2008
More than 50 players took to the court to play in the annual Bayside Basketball Challenge Cup on December 3. Six teams competed in the round robin competition. The competition was fierce and the goals aplenty.
Eventual winners, The Dragons played a tough match in the grand final against the Magic. A nail biting finish saw the winning goal being shot just as the final siren sounded. It was a great game that had the crowd of 200 cheering loudly as the two teams scored goal for goal. Sam Baker, a Magic team member was awarded the Most Valuable Player trophy earning the nickname ‘Slammin’ Sam’ in the process.
The Bayside Basketball Challenge Cup goes from strength to strength each year thanks to the efforts and enthusiasm of many people including the organisers, spectators and players. The competition celebrates the true spirit of basketball and teamwork. The ball is passed around to give everyone a go, the excitement gained from scoring a goal and the willingness of everyone to let others have a fair shot at goal is inspiring to watch.
Thanks to all those who participated in helping celebrate International Day for People with a Disability in such a magical way.
