A great day of racing thanks to SEW Eurodrive
24th of August 2007
On Monday 20 August, 50 people from Bayley House were treated to a fabulous day out at the Harness Racing at Moonee Valley. Rob & Adel Merola from SEW Eurodrive hosted the day in memory of Gary Gilchrist, a long-time friend of Rob and a great supporter of Bayley House. And what a day it was!
First port of call was to the Lance Justice Stables in Melton. Lance, who is one of Australia's leading Harness Racing trainers, gave us a tour of his premises explaining how the horses are trained, what they are fed and gave us an insight into how the horses are prepared on a race day. We even had the opportunity to meet some of the horses who would be racing later in the day.
Following morning tea we headed off to Moonee Valley Racecourse where we settled into the Sunline Suite, complete with all the facilities we needed - lunch, TAB and our own courtyard area to view the races. The first race was a great thrill. Lance was driving and to our delight his horse won. Everyone was certain that it our loud cheering that got him over the line 'by a nose'.
One of the highlights of the day was meeting well-known race caller, Dan Melicki who interviewed top drivers, Daryl Douglas and Jodi Quinlan for us in between two of the races. We cheered them on too! A special part of the day was the running of the two feature races - the Gary Gilchrist Memorial Pace and the Bayley House Trotters Handicap. Harness Racing Victoria had named both races in honour of our day at the Harness Racing. What more could we want!
Overall we had a fantastic day. Great weather, new experiences and even a few winning bets! Thank you so much to SEW Eurodrive, Lance Justice and John Crowe at Harness Racing Victoria for all your hard work and effort to make sure we had a truly memorable day.
