NDIS Peers Support Network

As the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) approaches it is important that individuals with a disability and their carers keep well aware of all aspects of the NDIS, its requirements and the information they require to ensure the best possible package is achieved.

Consequently Bayley House has been working closely with VALID (The Victorian Advocacy League for Individuals with a Disability) to cestablish a peer support group for families in the Bayside area which meets at Bayley House in Brighton.

The NDIS Network Meetings are held at Bayley House – 52 Middle Crescent in Brighton and are open to anyone who supports a person with a disability and would like to learn more about the preparing for the NDIS.

The meetings will be held on either the Monday or the Tuesday of the third week of the month and will run for approximately 90mins from 6.30pm- 8.00pm.

Tea / coffee and biscuits will be provided.

There will be no meeting in December.

The aim of the support network meetings is to build on people’s NDIS knowledge and share ideas and experiences. Together the members will learn from each other, support each other and be in a better position to make choices about funding packages.

Guest speakers will be arranged, questions and queries will be answered and ideas and advice will be exchanged. Some of the topics NDIS Families Support Network could discuss include:

  • · What do I need to do in preparation for negotiating a package?
  • · Assessment and planning – what happens?
  • · Who will control the funds in the package?
  • · What is the role of the Local Area Coordinators?
  • · Do you know of an agency that can find me good reliable workers?
  • · Where can I get help with being more in control of my package?
  • · Am I able to use my funding to go on holiday?

If you would like to be added to the email distribution list for attending the sessions and to recieve session notes, please email Kerryn McIver via contactus@bayleyhouse.org.au
